Best Mosquito Repellent

The Mr. and I finally got the vegetable garden planted last night.  Last year at this time we had just moved, so we were still trying to locate the cereal bowls and such so the garden didn't get to happen.  Even though it takes a lot of work to get started, it felt so good to be back at it this year.  Since rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week we really needed to get it all out tonight.  So that was us in the dark finishing up trying to see where we had planted lettuce seeds!!  I came inside ready to take a long hot shower and crash for awhile when I was reminded of one of the downfalls of this wonderful, beautiful time of year.

Mosquitos.

My legs are still itching as I type this.

I guess I didn't plan ahead this time folks.  However it reminded me of a trick my mom has used and sworn by for years and I knew I had to stop and share with you all.

Every year my parents throw a huge 4th of July party and open up their backyard to the whole town (exaggerating in the very slightest because it sure feels like the whole town).  The first year or so we would all come back inside after the party and be itching like crazy, all mosquito eaten from the fun night.  Finally we heard of this "home remedy" and gave it a whirl.  We are going on about year 10 of doing it and not having 1 single bug bite out of the couple hundred guests.

It has to be the original flavor, and it can't be generic.  Just original Listerine has worked for us.  But slosh this around the yard about 30 minutes before an event and you will be mosquito free.  If you spend a lot of time outside I would suggest putting this in a squirt bottle and just spritzing it in the yard before you go out.  Yes, you will have a minty fresh scent.  But I find it a lot better, not to mention safer, than bug repellent.  This will last on the yard for a day or two unless it rains!  So as I sit here with itchy legs, this is my PSA for the night-stock up on Listerine folks.
It's mosquito season.

  5. Thanks for this! I'm so tired of not being able to enjoy the sunset. And the fact that I don't have to spray it on myself is a huge bonus! Pinned.
