Tasty Tuesday: Best Ever Coleslaw & Link Up!

Hi friends and welcome to another Tasty Tuesday!  I'm so glad you are here and can't wait to see what you share!

If you're looking for one more quick 4th of July dish to share with friends and family this weekend, I think I just might have what you are looking for!

I grew up hating coleslaw.  Like if a restaurant accidentally served it on a plate near my other food I would mentally throw a fit (I was gratefully smart enough to know I best not utter a word except "thank you very much").  I swore that the rest of my "good" food had been contaminated just by being near that gross stuff.  Oh the drama.

However, if it's good coleslaw, these days I can't get enough of it.

This is some good coleslaw. Serve it along side some delicious Slow Cooker BBQ sandwiches this weekend, or even top the sandwiches with this!  Also, if you are planning on taking this meal on the go, like a picnic, I think this would be adorable and practical served in mason jars.  Just make sure you keep it nice and cold!  Here's what you'll need...
1 package coleslaw mix (or 8 cups finely shredded cabbage and 1/4 cups diced carrot)
2 tablespoons minced onions
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice

In a large bowl mix together the coleslaw mix and minced onion and set aside.

In a separate bowl mix the sugar, salt, pepper, milk, mayonnaise, buttermilk, vinegar, and lemon juice.

Finally pour over the salad/onion mixture and stir to combine.  Refrigerate this for a few hours to let the flavors really mix well-the longer this sits the better it gets.

  2. I felt very similarly about coleslaw growing up. On the day the school cafeteria served it, the garbage can was FULL of it - so sad! I love it now. Thanks for sharing your delicious-sounding recipe and for hosting your lovely party. Have a beautiful week!
