Tasty Tuesday Lemonade Pie & Recipe Link Up

Hi friends and welcome to another Tasty Tuesday!  Thanks for coming by!

According to the temperature outside, it's already Summer.  You won't hear us complaining around here though because at least it's dry and not stormy everyday!  When we aren't by the pool we are gathering with friends for cookouts and soaking up the sun.

This pie is a must for any dessert you need this time of year.  My mother has made it since I was young enough to have to sneak licking out the bowl and we still love it.  It's sweet and creamy, with a nice lemon citrus flavor that screams Summertime!  It only takes a few minutes to throw together as well.  Here's what you'll need…

1 Baked Graham Cracker crust (store bought or homemade)
1 6oz. frozen lemonade, thawed
1 can sweetened condensed milk
12 oz. Cool Whip
Optional:  A few drops of yellow food coloring to enhance the lemon look.  You can also use pink food coloring for a Pink Lemonade Pie look.  Perfect for bridal/baby showers!!

Mix lemonade and sweetened condensed milk together.  Fold in Cool Whip and food coloring if so desired and pour into cooled pie crust.  Refrigerate and enjoy!!

Of Trials & Storms

I heard a story once about a man and his son who had just come home from the funeral of their wife/mother.  Clearly devastated they silently made their way through dinner and went to bed, not sure of what else to do.  The young boy laid in the dark room staring at the ceiling listening to the utter silence around him.  Eventually he couldn't bear it any longer and went to his dad's room and said-daddy it's so dark in my room, can I come in your bed please?  The dad quietly obliged and welcomed his son.  However, as the son continued to lay in his dad's arms he realized it was just as dark in that room as it was his own.  Finally he wept in his dad's arms and said-daddy it's so dark, can you just tell me if your face is towards me or away from me?

We've all felt that utter darkness in the storm where we just need to know, really know, that our Father is looking our way and closer than our next breath.

Last week I remembered the way it feels as if the air has just been knocked out of you when we get hit with a trial or storm out of nowhere.  So it might seem random and all over the place, but I hope God speaks through it where it's needed…

Trials are often repeated.
Collective sigh.  It's the truth though.  I look back on the hard times in my life and realize I spent more time saying "why God?" instead of "help me be a faster learner God". These trials are with great purpose and not haphazard or random in the least.  My God loves me too much to let me go through life as I am, so if I didn't learn the lesson the hard way the first time, you bet I can see that one come back around.
Trials are temporary.
With Jesus trials will always pass.  Even if they don't pass while still on this earth, we know they can't carry with us into eternity.  Maybe it's just me, but I find comfort in those dark moments that this won't be forever.

What to Do During a Trial:
1.)  Truth
For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.  (Psalm 33:4)
We have access to the ultimate TRUTH.  Does that blow your mind like it does mine?  I have somewhere to go that is bigger than anything I can wrap my mind around and is never like the search results on Google.  I don't have to doubt it, question it, or research it to verify it's legitimacy.  In the midst of a trial I know where I better saturate my mind in the Truth of God's Word.
2.)  Trust
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  (Deuteronomy 31:6)
When the God of the universe promises to NEVER leave you, that changes things.  We have a God who promises to never waver in His promises towards us for a second.  Who will not grow weary, get tired, exhaust Himself of options, or get tired of carrying you if the trial lasts "too long".  That is something, He is someone, we can throw all of our dependance and trust in any trial.
3.)  Tears
Jesus wept.  (John 11:35)
Maybe it's just me, but I think there is something almost sacred about tears.  God can use tears to express unspeakable joy or unspeakable pain.  It brings with it a certain cleansing and release.  I for one also find such comfort in the fact that He has kept a record of my tears (Psalm 56:8)
4.)  Together
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.  (Acts 2:46)
Don't go it alone.  We really are better together, that's why He instructed us to keep meeting together.  He knew how hard life would get and the benefit, encouragement, and comfort we would get from doing it together as the Body of Christ.

Remember when Jesus told us:  "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."  (John 16:33)  Trials and storms are going to happen.  It's not if, it's when.  But for those in Christ it's going to be good.  I've read the last page of the story and everything is restored, redeemed, and we win.  However, we aren't on the last page yet.  So what do we do?  We look towards Calvary.  Where a rugged cross reminds us that our worst storm was when we were lost, without hope, and hell bound because we had a debt we couldn't pay.  But on that cross Jesus took care of the greatest trial ever, so won't He surely take care of the ones we face today?
Look to the cross.

Tasty Tuesday Watermelon Slushy & Recipe Link Up

Hi friends! Welcome to another Tasty Tuesday!  Thanks for coming by!

The Mr. and his dad share an uncanny love for watermelon.  I can still remember when we were dating the 2 of them driving a silly distance for the sole purpose of finding the best watermelon in the area.
I didn't know what was wrong with the local Wal-Mart 3 minutes down the road.

It is not Summer in our house til someone brings a watermelon home.  So when the sun (finally) appeared on the first day of June I knew we needed watermelon to usher in the arrival of Summer.  This easy slushy doesn't even really seem like a legitimate recipe.  But it's so delicious and refreshing I have to share it anyways!
Simply fill a blender, (I used a nutribullet and it worked great) with watermelon and ice cubes.  Taste test your watermelon and see if it's sweet enough on it's own.  If it's not, add a spoonful or 2 of sugar.  Mix it, pour it up, and enjoy!
If you do happen to have any leftovers, I highly suggest making yummy popsicles!
We love Summer.

Why I Still Love the Church

Years ago there was a snazzy little slogan that was basically putting down the church while inviting you to come to theirs.  I would drive by their billboard daily with a confused look.  Don't get me wrong, I know people have been burned by their local church so you won't see me claiming any of them are perfect by a long shot.  I too, have been burned by people in the church.  But I also had a bad burger from a little diner once and yet I've continued to eat burgers in my life.  So there's that.

But I digress.

I love the church.  I love what God's intentions were with the church.  I love the messed up people that make up the church.  I love the banner that waves over the church that says:
You need mercy?
You need grace?
You need love?
Compassion?
Hope?
No problem.
We've got all of that.
And then some.

In Ephesians 5:25 we're told Christ loved the church so much that He gave Himself up for her.  He created it to mirror a marriage relationship between Himself and His children.  A  place we could grow in wisdom and love for Him and get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ.

As the family of God we all share the same beginning-death.
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.
(Ephesians 2:1)

Let that sink in for a moment.  Dead.  That was our beginning. Not tired, not sick, not done.  Dead.  But God…in all His mercy offers us this gift of LIFE (Ephesians 2:5).  So as the church our story is-We're all just a bunch of once dead people that have accepted the greatest gift ever offered to us and now we're alive again.  And once you've gone from death to life on behalf of someone else's doing-you just don't live the same.  Once you've gone from hopeless death and impending wrath to real authentic LIFE it changes everything.  I was dead and brought nothing to the table and He welcomed me into the family of God and offered me everything.
It ruins you for good, glory to God.

A couple of things I don't believe in that I just really want to get off my chest if you don't mind….
#1)  Organized religion.
Jesus practiced faith-real faith.  He came for the lost, the sick, the worst of the worst.  Not just the cleaned up, shined up, "put together" among us.  While He went religiously to meet with the people of God, He didn't follow a protocol of organized rules and regulations and He wasn't a fan of those who were more concerned with keeping a system of "works" than a people of radical love.  He commended the grace-givers, not the grace-stealers.
#2)  "I don't go to church because of the hypocrites".
If you are one of those people, please hear me out.  I say this with the most love and compassion.  Someone that could not be closer to me has been there for 10 years and I could not love her more, so there's no judgment here.  But I will love you enough to look you in the eye (or computer screen) and tell you, it's probably time to step outside that box you've put yourself in.  I won't try to tell you not every church has hypocrites, because they do.  I'm a hypocrite too.  My husband, family, friends, pastor-all hypocrites-yet they are truly some of the most incredible people I know.  Let's be realistic here ya'll-there has only been one who was never a hypocrite and His Name is Jesus Christ.  He alone was able to walk this earth without fault (Hebrews 4:15).  I for one am a proponent of exercise and good health and healthy food, but I for one just enjoyed a bowl of ice cream my sweet man just brought me.  Guilty as charged.
At the end of the day though, I don't go to church to be more like my church family, I go to church to be more like Jesus.  Because when I'm with the people of God they pour into me and I pour into them and we all get the chance to become a little more like Him.  So sweet friend, if a person or group of people "ruined" church for you I am here to tell you that another person or group of people can fix it for generations to come.  Redemption is beautiful, don't you miss out on it for the world.

So yes, in this messed up world where in some seasons as a church we get it wrong a lot more often than we get it right, I still love the church.  Because I was that dead person too, and yes I still have imperfect, messy junk in my life that I am clinging to a Perfect God to help me change.  So I can never get stingy with grace and love because it is what saved me.  It's what changed me.  And I love the church that He intended for us.
