Tasty Tuesday Crockpot Chex Mix & Recipe Link Up

Hi friends and welcome to another Tasty Tuesday!!  Thanks for stopping by!

One of my families favorite Thanksgiving tradition is the annual Thanksgiving puzzle and snacks.  It began as a way to keep the kiddos distracted and out of the kitchen, but now that we're all grown we still continue it.  While the meal is being finished up we all gather in the living room and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and do a Thanksgiving puzzle together.  Not just any puzzle.  A very specific one of a family gathering around a Thanksgiving feast.  One year we decided to spice things up and do a different puzzle.
It was awful.
We vowed to never do that again and stick to the traditional, annual Thanksgiving puzzle.
While we puzzle and laugh and talk we also snack.  Since my mother does the extraordinary Thanksgiving feast, I take care of some appetizer/snacks.  Chex mix is an absolute must for the pre-Thanksgiving feast snack.  I wanted a way to avoid taking up more oven space though, so I found a way to use my trusty beloved crock pot.  If you're looking for one more delicious appetizer or snack to take to your Thanksgiving gathering, try this one!!!

Here's what you'll need..
(This is a non-traditional set of ingredients here I realize, but this is our favorite.  Use these suggested ideas or your family's favorites!!)
-9 cups Chex cereal (most suggest equal parts corn, rice, and wheat, but we don't like wheat chex)
-2 cups pretzels
-3 cups goldfish (in replacement of nuts due to a family member's nut allergy)
-6 Tablespoons melted butter
-1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
-1 Tablespoon seasoned salt
-1 teaspoon garlic powder

Begin by combining the cereals, pretzels, and goldfish in the crockpot.

In a separate bowl combine melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt and garlic powder.

Pour over the cereal mixture in the crockpot and stir to combine.

Turn this on low for 3 hours, stirring about every 45 minutes-1 hour so the bottom doesn't burn.  After the 3 hours pour the chex mix out on parchment paper to let it cool completely.

Once it's all cool eat it up, store it, or package it in cute jars with ribbon for a fun gift!!

Top 10 Thanksgiving Tables

I think I say this about every holiday, but Thanksgiving really is my favorite.
For this week anyways.
I love the focus on gratitude, the extra time with family and friends, the traditions, and of course-the food.  One of my favorite things about Thanksgiving is without a doubt, the lingering.  You know what I mean.  The food has been prepared and devoured, and you sit around with the people you love most just gathered around the dinner table talking.  Old stories, new stories, memories, love.
That is better than any pie.
I have to say though, it seems to me that the prettier the table, the longer the lingering. Even though I know it's just stuff and just the way the table looks and not at all as important as the people around it, I do believe you can create a cozier and more inviting atmosphere that just begs your loved ones to stay around a little longer.  Talk a little more.  Linger on.
Today I've rounded up 10 of my very favorite Thanksgiving table ideas that will be sure to put a brighter smile on your loved ones faces, and make them want to linger a little longer this year.

Tasty Tuesday Brownie Fudge Pie & Recipe Link Up

Hi friends and welcome to another Tasty Tuesday!  I'm so glad you stopped by.

We've got exactly 2 Tasty Tuesday's until Thanksgiving, so this week I wanted to share a non-traditional Thanksgiving dessert for you to make/take to your  Thanksgiving gathering!  I knew I wanted it to be unique.  Not a traditional fruit pie.  Pumpkin Pie.  Pecan Pie.  Something that would please those who turn their heads a the "normal" Thanksgiving treats, or just spice up the dessert table this year.
I'm halfway disappointed because I couldn't think of one.  I kept going back to my favorite.  My love.  Brownie Fudge Pie.
Don't let the pie exterior fool you, it is leading to the chewy, decadent, almost gooey fudge brownie-like center that has a special place in my heart.  This pie and I have a serious relationship, and I could not bring myself to bringing you all a lackluster dessert so as not to repeat myself.  You deserve the best my friend, and this pie is the very best.

I'm not sure where I got this recipe years ago, all I know is that my life was increasingly happier when it came.  I bring this pie every Thanksgiving and Christmas, and sometimes just on a Monday because it's Monday.  If you needed any other reason to try this pie, let me tell you it only takes about 10 minutes to throw together if you use a pre-made crust.
So let's get started…you'll need…
9 inch pie crust (homemade or store bought)
1 cup white sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 Tablespoons unsweeetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

Dump everything except the pie crust into a bowl and combine with the help of a stand or hand mixer.  Pour into pie crust and bake at 325 for 25-30 minutes.  The key to this pie is to NOT over bake it, you'll lose the chewy-ooey-goodness-factor.  And that's my favorite.  Serve as is or with a dollop of whipped cream.

I typically make a couple of these, as they will fly off the desert table.

Germs & Giants

Have I ever mentioned I'm a bit of a germaphobe??  I'm no Howie Mandel.  If we were face to face right now I'd hug your neck off.  No problem.  (That sounded extreme, didn't it?  I'm not that brutal.)  I touch door knobs and shake hands and still leave my house during cold and flu season.  But when life seems overly stressful for this reason or another, and I find myself dealing with more anxiety than usual-my thoughts can assail me about germs/diseases/sicknesses you name it.

Maybe it's because I hate to be sick.  I don't know anyone who enjoys it, but I tend to lead more to the freak out side.  I don't know why I do this.  I pray about it.  I tell God and everyone around me…I don't know why I'm doing this, I'm so sorry.

So last week, someone in our family got sick.  My first thought that almost sent me to the grave was…is it something serious?  Is this something bad?  Life threatening?  Life altering?  Should there be drastic measures involved?  Don't even let me get on WebMD.
My second thought was….if it's not something serious-will I get it too?

Ya'll.  It was days of these thoughts just pounding my mind.  If I quoted 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 once I quoted it a thousand times.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.  On the contrary they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I caught myself saying so many times--God take my thoughts captive, take my thoughts captive.

Praise God, it was not serious.  How did I know?  I got it a few nights later.  What happened next was nothing short of a miracle.

Total.  Peace.

I mean it.  Not just "dealing with it".  Not just "I somehow got through".  But total and complete peace that I can guarantee you I had absolutely nothing to do with.  I was up about every hour or 2 in the night.  Yet every single time I woke up, even before my eyes opened, there was a worship song playing in my head.  A different one every time too.  This wasn't something I tried to make happen, it just did.  Around 4am when the weariness started to kick in and I had the slightest thought-not worry or panic-of when is this going to end I instantly, and I mean instantly, heard only this..
The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.  He will take great delight in you, He will rejoice over you with singing, He will quiet you with His love.
(Zephaniah 3:17)

The next morning I woke up and for the first time possibly all week, didn't have to instantly pray for God to take my thoughts captive.  Instead I laid there and marveled at His goodness, His faithfulness that He had literally poured out upon me all night long.  It was more tangible than I could describe in words here.

The giant met the Glory-and the Glory won ya'll.  He always does.

Tasty Tuesday Crockpot Baked Potato Soup & Recipe Link Up

Hi friends and welcome to another Tasty Tuesday!  Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Today was one of those beautiful warm, breezy November days.  Almost 80.  Tonight however, the arctic air is heading our way in a big way.  With lows in the teens and possible snow headed for us, what's a girl to do but cancel all her plans and spend the day outside as much as possible.  As I drove home tonight I laughed at all the kids I saw playing outside and felt like rolling my window down offering my own little PSA to enjoy it while they could.
How else to prepare??  I get my soup on.  Ya'll I'm a soup girl at heart.  It's such a comfort food for me and I'm fairly sure it's one of my main love languages.  Put it in a crockpot for simplicity sake and I will love it for life.

This soup today is one of my absolute favorites.  As I slurped this down under a cozy blanket I asked the Mr how strange it would be to eat this soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  I'm not sure how this one went under the blog radar, it's been a long time favorite and I can't believe it hasn't made it's way here before now.  However here it is…

30 oz. bag frozen, diced hash browns
3-14 oz. cans chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup
1/2 onion, chopped (or 1 small)
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 stalks celery, chopped (optional)
bacon drippings to taste (optional)
8 oz. cream cheese (do NOT use fat free as it will not melt)

In a crockpot combine everything EXCEPT the cream cheese
Let this cook for 6-8 hours on low.

About 1 hour before you're ready to serve, add the cream cheese.
Leave this on low and let it continue for about another hour, or until the cream cheese is completely melted and incorporated into the soup.  Sometimes I have to help it out a bit by "smushing" it with the back of a spoon.

Serve with cheese, chopped green onions, or bacon bits!!
